Notes
Notes:
This is the most complete live recording so far. These are the original tapes - 2 well-filled Fuji DR-II 90 minute cassettes. It was around this time I stepped up and started organizing things for Charles and the boys. Like check out the fancy setlist - LOL. Tapes also got collected and notated and copied and dispersed, with the originals stashed away. Then to still have these recordings and jump 15 years and have this world wide web to publish this music, to share with so many - way cool.
Good mix overall tonight. Charles is playing his new 88-key Rhodes, and he certainly gets to show it off. Larry is on harp, backup vocals, and cowbell on the bangers; Harty on lead; Tom on guitar you don't hear; and the new drummer Stretch. Bernie is on bass; he had moved to Jacksonville Beach and eventually found this blues & BBQ somewhere between the beach and the city. So he got us the gig & we played this place 2 or 3 times. This is a Saturday night sandwiched in between some other very nice acts on a Labor Day weekend. See club flyer - also coming up is a 2 nighter in October (4 tapes - oh boy). The owner (Chip I guess) really liked Charles; he fed us well too. I think he was able to stay in business a couple years or so. Out front he had "Magnolia YST" enscribed in the concrete walk. Larry was the one to pick up on JJ Cale and "Magnolia You Sweet Thing".
Usual covers tonight; the new intro song; plus the band's original songs that were released as "Animal Called the Blues". Bernie does his Muddy Waters stuff ("45 count on A" in Mannish Boy), while Harty fills in a few to give Charles a break. Charles gets a bit congested at one point but as usual, he ups the voice power and sings thru it. I even get a thank you from Charles - right after I cutoff 2 songs with an unexpected tape break. Last set, the band goes on automatic with songs they know so well. Sounds like a bit of a tussle picking songs; but Charles does get in News is Bad - one of my favs. And there is still a lot of energy as they close with Little Bit of Love.
October 2007 - Personally I prefer this recording to the '94 Orlando show that seems to be so popular for Charles here at LMA but what do I know. Enjoy! - SCopeland

Subject: Must be OK
Been trying to get the club flyer to display in the player window but it keeps going back to the setlist. Haven't got on the right filenames yet; it's supposed to get the first in aplha order. By the way, those are my scribbles on the setlists - some during the show (like the times), the rest during playback as I tried to learn what I did right or wrong.
